Mail on Apple iPhone

The instructions provided in this section were verified by Apple.

Access from iPhone

You can set up your mail account on an iPhone in two ways:

  • Manually.
  • Automatically. You will not have to specify the majority of the mail settings. Instead, server will generate a link using which your phone will download your mail profile with the necessary settings.

To set up a mail account on an iPhone manually:

1. Go to Settings > Mail.

2. Tap Accounts.

3. Tap Add Account.

4. In the displayed list of email providers, select Other.

5. Tap Add Mail Account.

6. On the New Account screen, enter the following information and then tap Next:

  • The name that will be displayed in your emails.

  • Your full email address, for example, john@example.com.

  • The password of your email account.

  • (Optional) Your account description.

7. To keep the copies of email messages on the server, tap IMAP at the top of the screen. If you do not want to keep them on the server, tap POP. Then specify the details of your incoming and outgoing mail servers and tap Next:

  • Your domain name in the “Host Name” field, for example, mail.example.com.

  • The name of your email account in the “Username” field, for example, john@example.com.

  • The password of your email account.

8. Once the email configuration is added, tap Save. The connection to the specified server will be verified.

9. Once the connection is verified, choose what information you want to sync with your phone and tap Save.

10. Your iPhone will then verify your account information. Once it is finished, you will be taken to the “Mail” screen. Your account will now be listed in the Accounts section.

Note: If you are experiencing any difficulties with syncing your messages, you can manually configure the folders correspondence. To do this, select your newly created account and enter the Advanced section. Here you can choose a mailbox (DraftsSentDeletedArchive) and select a matching folder on the server. This way your folders will be in sync no matter where or how you access your email.

 

To set up a mail account on an iPhone automatically:

1. Open the link on the device on which you want to set up your mail account.

2. Link https://example.com/email.mobileconfig?emailaddress=john@example.com, where example.com is the Internet address of your website and john@example.com is your e-mail address.

You perform all the further steps on your iPhone.

3. Tap Allow to have your phone download your mail account profile.

4. Go to Settings and then tap Profile Downloaded.

5. Tap Install to install the downloaded profile.

6. Enter your phone passcode and then tap Install.

7. Enter your password of the incoming mail server and then tap Next.

8. Once the profile is installed, tap Done.

You will be taken to the “Mail” screen. Your account will now be listed in the Accounts section.

If you wish to set up a mail account manually, use the following typical combinations of connection security and authentication method settings. If the settings do not work for you, ask your hosting provider about the correct combination.

IMAP, SMTP, POP3:

  • Connection security: SSL/TLS
  • Authentication: Normal password

Other parameters that you may need when configuring your account manually:

  • POP3 port: 995
  • IMAP port: 993
  • SMTP port: 465
  • Username. Your full email address. For example: johndoe@example.com.
  • Incoming server address (POP3/IMAP). Specify your website’s Internet address. Example: mail.example.com
  • Outgoing server address. Specify your website’s Internet address. Example: mail.example.com
