Gmail on Android

The following instructions were verified against Android.

Access from Gmail on Android

To set up Gmail on Android automatically:

1. Open Gmail.

2. In the top right corner, tap your profile picture and tap Add another account.

3. Choose “Other”.

4. Enter your email address and tap Next.

5. Choose the account type and tap Next. To keep the copies of email messages on the server, select the IMAP option. If you do not want to keep them on the server, select POP3.

6. Specify your email account password and tap Next.

7. Specify the domain names of the incoming mail servers and then click NextSpecify your website’s Internet address. Example: mail.example.com

Note: You may see the “Certificate not valid” warning if the mail server or domain is not secured with a valid SSL/TLS certificate. To proceed via HTTP, tap Advanced and then tap PROCEED ANYWAY.

8. Specify the domain names of the outgoing mail servers and then click NextSpecify your website’s Internet address. Example: mail.example.com

Note: Here you may see the “Certificate not valid” warning again. To proceed via HTTP, tap Advanced and then tap PROCEED ANYWAY.

9. Keep the default Gmail sync settings or change them and tap Next.

10. (Optional) Change the account name and/or specify the name that will be displayed on sent messages.

11. Tap Next to exit the setup.

The setup is done. You can see the new account in the list of accounts in Gmail.

If you wish to set up a mail account manually, use the following typical combinations of connection security and authentication method settings. If the settings do not work for you, ask your hosting provider about the correct combination.

IMAP, SMTP, POP3:

  • Connection security: SSL/TLS
  • Authentication: Normal password

Other parameters that you may need when configuring your account manually:

  • POP3 port: 995
  • IMAP port: 993
  • SMTP port: 465
  • Username. Your full email address. For example: johndoe@example.com.
  • Incoming server address (POP3/IMAP). Specify your website’s Internet address. Example: mail.example.com
  • Outgoing server address. Specify your website’s Internet address. Example: mail.example.com
